Important Information About Some Samsung Mobile Phones

Emergency calling may be affected on some older devices

We have been advised by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) that some older mobile phones may not be able to call Triple Zero (000) in Australia. This could be a problem in an emergency, so we want to make sure our customers are aware.

Which phones are affected?

Some older Samsung models, including certain versions of the Samsung Galaxy A30 & Galaxy A21s, may have difficulty connecting to the Vodafone network for emergency calls.

This can happen even if the phone tries to connect to another network when its main network isn’t available.

Samsung has published a list of affected devices on their website on a page titled: Keeping you safe: An issue with some older mobile devices calling Triple Zero

Is it still safe or legal to buy these phones?

These phones are not banned and can still be sold in Australia.

However, some devices:

  • May not be able to call Triple Zero (000)
  • May not work on all Australian mobile networks
  • Could be affected by network restrictions

What we recommend for customers

If you already own, or are thinking about buying one of these phones, we suggest you:

  • Check the phone’s exact model number
  • Confirm it works on Australian mobile networks
  • Update the phone to the latest software
  • Contact your mobile provider if you have any questions about emergency calling
